French Vintage 2 Carats Nine Stone Band Chunky Half Hoop Ring Antique Old Mine Cut DIAMOND 8.9g 18k Gold Solid Stacker Heavy Cigar 2Ctw OMC

ABOUT:
One of my favorite diamond bands in awhile and wow was it popular in the Instagram previews! This is a hefty one, a true half hoop where the nine old mine cut diamonds cover exactly half of the ring. It totals about 2 carats in antique diamonds and almost wears like an eternity the way the stones wrap around the sides reaching the adjacent fingers. It isn't until the hand is turned over that we can see the back half is gold.

At the center of the sturdy band, the diamonds are nested in, each held with sets of four slightly recessed bead prongs. The chunky cuts still crop out from the band to give the piece a texture with sparkle and geometry amidst the glowing 18k buttery gold.

The nine old mine cut diamonds vary slightly in size and shape, the center being the largest. Probably a custom made piece with the stones being heirloom diamonds, or antique stones repurposed from another piece, reset in the vintage period.

Layers well with other pieces with a strong flat north and south edge, as it is uniform in width all the way around. It looks beautiful with eternity rings, gold bands and other half hoops. Found in France with their hallmarks for 18k gold and a goldsmith stamp.

Please note the detailed measurements that I always provide, as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures where I am required to show zoomed in detail. Antique box not included.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6 3/4 to the center of the band. Best to discuss sizing with your local jeweler to determine their comfort level with the shape of the gold at the back (how it curls in) and with the diamonds set into the ring face in this way.

The band is 6.2mm north south all the way around. About 3.2mm deep /thick off the finger, standing taller if you measure to the crown of the chunky diamonds. Weight is a very sturdy 8.9 grams.

The center diamond is about 4.5mm and about a third of a carat. The other stones measure 3.3 to 4mm each, most in the .2 to .25 carat range, with the smallest stones measuring down to .15-.17 carat. I do not remove stones from antique settings for exact measurements but estimates to about 2 carats total weight in diamonds.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
This is one of those rings that are thick all the way around so it creates space between where it is worn and the adjacent finger. This isn't a condition issue as it is how it is intended and how it was made, but just thought to make a note as to how it feels as it's a chunker with a very nice quality hand feel.
Very sturdy shank, there is a bit of wear to the bead prongs here or there but all the stones are held without any movement. This is something to keep an eye on over time.

The largest center diamond has a crescent moon shaped unpolished crevice off one side of the table from inclusions carrying up to the surface and flakes of loss. It also has two additional crystal inclusions within. It still appears complete and round and fills the setting, so it does not appear cracked in half or out of round in its cushioned shape but it reflects the light differently than the other stones and appears a bit frosty overall. One other diamond, 3rd from one side also has an indented natural inclusion that has created a smaller crease at the surface, it also appears a bit more frosty to the eye from the inclusions. The others have less visible quirks. Only one small carbon spot, very slightly eye visible, a silk or crystal here or there that is slightly eye visible and then two stones are eye clean. Not a lot of detectible warmth, the stones are all bright and well matching. Very sturdy shank, note that while it is 18k solid gold, its flat cigar shape is created with vacant space within, where the north south edges are curved in and a channel is felt on the inside (compared to a wedding band for example where the gold is solid all the way through and flush to the finger). This is very evident in photos and the piece still uses a lot of gold so there are no dings or dents or risks of bends as the gold work is thick. Just some surface wear and faint scratches on the vertical edges notable due to the mirrored finish.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
