ABOUT:
Pre-1883 Victorian pair of antique puffy star earrings. These have a great 3D design and wonderful movement. The circular part and the center sunburst / starburst are connected by loop so that they can dangle freely and move easier, compared to a fixed disk with a cutout center if that makes sense.
The ear wires appear to be later than the body of the earrings but they both test at 9-10k gold. The earwires are stamped 9CT. Despite being lower carat they have a high shine and beautiful true gold hue with some rosy highlights from age that we love to find in antiques.
There is another stamp on each earring that is quite interesting. Â It's a diamond shape with numbers and letters around the sides, and then 28 Rd at the center. At first I thought it was as design on the star, and after studying it, was completely unfamiliar with the mark. Â But one of my sweet customers recently informed me that it is actually the uncommon Kite hallmark used only between 1868 and 1883 which helps us accurately date these Victorian earrings. Â Such a fun provenance! Â I love learning new things about the incredibly vast world of antique jewelry and I thank the kind customer for educating me!
These are the earwires that are not permanently connected, the drops added like pendants that can easily be removed and swapped out with other bases.
Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it is difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box not included.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
29mm from top of ear wire to base, by 19mm wide. Combined weight is 1.9g with dainty hand feel.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
These are not heavy and do not drag on the ear but do present as a nice size. They were fabricated like most puffy style pieces with vacant space at in between the two sides. As such there are some dings and impressions most notably to the center of one that has a pin ding and similar impressions on the back which aren't really seen while wearing. The other one has a tiny pinhead hole that is less visible and some shallow impressions as well. These mostly appear as a ripple here or there, the overall shape is very legible but they show age and wear. Very shiny, not dull or dingy at all so they appear as higher carat.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, small nicks. They also may have some build up and some imperfections and other age related wear, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any glaring issues above and they are all still functioning and wearable. For pieces with more patina, this can always be cleaned up / polished by the buyer but most of my customers prefer original patina so I am selling them as is.
Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop! : )

All items hand picked by me, one at a time from all over the world. All listings individually written by me, and not AI, after studying each piece to discuss its beauties and its ; ) eccentricities (which I am picky to point out).
Many of my listings include group shots – I find the comparisons between pieces help show scale, diamond hues, etc. All items in group shots are inventory, but refer to the website to see what items have sold out and to watch for new listings from the grouping to appear on the home page.
